Are lefthanders better at driving left hand drive cars? Or does everyone slam thier hand into the door panel to shift gear and end up opening the door when trying for the handbrake
Also, there are more right handed people in the world, therefore natural selection says that righties are the better survivors, hence the better drivers. |

OK, I confess - I am one of those left-handed drivers. I don't think it makes me any better or worse than any other driver. There is a school of thought that left-handed people are more intelligent, but since they can't even define intelligence, where does that leave us? Standard intelligence tests don't measure things like creativity, and some of the most intelligent people I know are great musicians or writers, but would not score highly in those tests. Is left-handedness inborn, or learned behaviour? My ex husband and I are both left-handed. I was always left handed, but my ex had an accident, and had to learn to use his left hand to write. Our two kids are both left handed, and I believe it's because they copied us when learning to write. My father was left handed, and they tied his hand behind his back at school to make him use his right hand (they wouldn't get away with that now). Latin for left is sinister, so does that make us some sort of darkside warriors? Back to driving - maybe left handed people are better at anticipating and spotting potential hazards because of the way our brains work, but with practise we can all learn to use much more of our brain than we do. Incidentally, I play the guitar right handed, because I didn't know you could get left handed ones
