I have a 2007 nissan Navara Outlaw. I am going to change the oil and just wondering which is the correct type to use ?

My local dealer says I use 5w-30 normal engine oil, they type used on petrol vehicles. But my handbook says to use 5w-30 DIESLEL oil.

Now my local dealer is not always reliable, so the seed of doubt has been put in my mind.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Check the handbook again - besides the viscosity (5w-30) it should also mention minimum API and/or ACEA test specifications (oils are put through a whole bunch of standard performance tests).

Then check the side of the can - if the same (or later) tests are mentioned then you'll be ok.

Different tests apply to oils intended for use in diesel engines though it's not uncommon to find oils that meet both petrol and diesel standards.
