It's pothole season again

What generally follows ice and snow? Potholes of course!

It happens every year but this year looks like being especially bad – some experts estimate there will be 30% more potholes.

As soon as the ice and snow had cleared a plentiful number of cavernous potholes opened up on the road network – and it’s not just minor roads either with many ‘A’ roads showing some seriously bad alloy wheel crunching potholes.

Have you noticed an increase in pot-holes? Tell others where the really bad ones are so they don’t run into one! Have you already damaged your vehicle and tried to make a claim for damage? Did you win or was it rejected out of hand?

Funny you mention it - i never put it down to the weather but i hit about 3 potholes in the same road yesterday!
One felt like my wheels had come off, it woke my little boy in the back seat so it must have been a whopper. It was on a local small but busy cut through road in Bristol by the netham river. No real damage luckily.

The real problem is on the local roads where there was a real road maintenance backlog before the current cold spell.

So we have gone from lack of salt to holes in the road.In many cases the deep potholes are just filled in rather than properly fixed.

i cycle past a pothole every week on a b-road. it is probably filled in every 4/6 weeks but with any frost it becomes a dangerous crater. They acually need to resurface that part of the road rather than using sticking plaster measures that don't work.

Report the potholes and if you or your bike/vcar is damaged make a claim against the highway authority.

i have claimed for damage from my local council it only took 3 years and plenty of book passing ,This could be avoided by a better cordinated repairs not just bodge it .
The simple fact is they will say they do not have enough money / resources so where has all the money gone ?

I drove through a massive pothole which wrecked my tyre, put a claim in to be told by claim handlers that as the council has a regular road repair programme it cannot be held responsible. Well their system can't be any good as the roads are a mess, did write another letter complaining but no joy. If anyone knows how to pursure a claim further let me know!

I agree with accident compensation such as pot holes but not to the extent where a man received £700 for falling over a speed ramp or money given to a woman who walked into a lamppost – isn’t this just abusing the system?

I live in Surrey and the roads are full of holes, it is the richest county and has the poorest road networks!
