I had a feeling that a National Tyre repair centre may have been a bit economical with the truth to secure a sale.

A few weeks ago I had my tyre repaired (Nail) yesterday I was unfortunate to have another nail in the same Tyre, the nail was about 20 or so inches from the previous repair.

I was advised that because they were so close, that the tyre could not be repaired and that I had to buy a new tyre..

My question is this, is this true, if so what is the laid down rule and where can I read it.

Secondly, if this is untrue and I was duped, who can I write to should I get no where with the Manager.

Many thanks

You can have a tyre repaired as many times as you like as long as the repair is in the repairable area and the repair plugs/patches do not overlap each other. The official regulation is BS AU 159F

I have suffered lately with punctures, two this year and on the second puncture used the bottle of goo in the boot to find that when i got to the tyre dealers they refused to repair it even though it was within the legal limit but because the sealant residues can effect a permanent repair and the BTMA (british tyre manufacturers association) reccommends a replacement, tough luck gotta buy a new tyre. £150 and a whole load of hassle.

I looked around for a solution to this problem, that for me, isn't as rare as you might think in the hope that one of the tyre manufacturers have developed a puncture resistant tyre, but all i found was poxy run flats that only allow you to drive 50 miles once punctured, can't be repaired, cost a fortune and thats if the tyre dealer has even got a replacement.

After further searching i came across another type of goo this time applied before the puncture occurs, a product called Puncturesafe which coats the inner surface of the tyre with a viscous layer that instantly seals punctures as they happen permanently for the life of the tyre, guaranteed as long as the puncture is within the legal limit (6mm) and the tyres structure hasn't been compromised. If the tyre is severely damaged it will bleed out giving a controlled deflation.

I'v put some in each of my tyres but have yet to get another puncture so don't know if it works, it sounds almost magical.

almost too good to be true, but surely that couldn't make these claims if it was, could they?
