PETROL PRICES

The price of crude oil has been hovering around 45-50 dollars. One third of the price last year. Why are pump prices creeping up again?
The article in the press states that when the VAT is returned to 17.5% next April we can expect an increase in price. Why? When VAT was reduced to 15% duty on fuel was increased to compensate so that effectively the reduction did not affect the price per litre. Surely when VAT rate is re-instated the duty should be reduced. Strong denials will be made about profiteering but I wonder. |

Are we becoming a nation of lemmings?why arn't we saying enough is enough? to the goverment ?why do we have to pay so much tax on petrol ? Its the same old story they raise the price of petrol, then they reduce it a little and we think oh this is good ,then they hit us again with another increase. Can someone out there just answer me one question ? WHY ? |

............... and another penny in the last couple of days. Are motorists paying for someone's glad life? Time to call a halt. |

My local esso has put unleaded up 6 times in 2 weeks, the latest today. It has gone up every other day and its now 99.9p. Lat time it was 60 dollars a barrel as it is now, i am sure it could not have been at this price.
This is blatant profiteering and i am surprised that something has not come up in the press about a 7.5% rise in 2 weeks. I bet the oil companies are loving all the attention being taken away by fiddling MP's. |

I've got to agree I am dismayed the the goverment are doing nothing whilst the petrol companies are ripping us all off. Barrel of oil is now at $58 even taking into account the lower exchange rate that does NOT equate to 98.6 p per litre.
But as usual we the public put up with it; there doesntnt seem to be a central point to complain |

Amazingly, diesel is subsidising unleaded at the moment. Petrol st some supermarkets is still 95.9 - 4p below the cost price last Friday. The cost of diesel has been below the cost of petrol for a couple of weeks but is kept artificially high. The cost of refined petrol is quoted in the Times Tuesday to Saturday, as is the £/$ exchange rate. There are 1325 litres given per tonne of unleaded and 1183 per tonne of diesel so you can work the prices out every day. (There should be more litres per tonne but Weights and Measures allow the Oil Companies to disregard this with their retailers.)
Far from profiteering on petrol, the pricing is predatory and will lead to more site closures. But why let the truth get in the way of a good story? |

I know what I am about to say is not accurate, but it's the principle -
20p = cost of petrol at pump 80p = tax at pump That equates to 400% tax on cost per litre (AKA "Rip-off") |

Isn't there a petition somewhere to let the government know we are appalled
at being ripped-off-disgraceful profiteering; why should car drivers always bear these riduclous taxes? |

at its peak oil was at around $150 a barrel and petrol was at around 115.9p per liter. it droped to around $38 a barrel for oil and 84.9p per liter.... so why has the pterol priced nearly returned to the peak from the other year (current peterol price is 104.9p) when the current proce of oil is only $75 per barrel.
YOU DO THE MATHS!!! |

I agree, the prices of petrol today (and diesel) are just staggering, but lets not forget, even though the oil companies make billions, they don't actually make very much out of petrol itself.
It's our wonderful government that makes the most from it all, i think it's about 74% tax at the moment, or about 74p for every pounds worth of fuel. I might be inaccurate on those figures but it gives a rough idea. Paul. |
