I am looking for advice as how best to leave my car when I spend a long holiday with friends in Australia this coming winter. Car will be left in driveway.

In 2004 I had a Cavalier & left this for 7 weeks; on my return the car was in reasonable condition but the battery was completely flat and wouldn't charge up so I had to buy a new battery. Don'y wish to repeat this. Is it a good idea to remove the battery and store inside the house?

Quite a few people must go away in the winter time. Are there any tips others can give?

If leaving the car for more than a month we recommend removing the battery.

Be sure to check the code of any coded radio before removing a battery lead, and find out if any on-board computer will be affected by having the battery disconnected for a long period of time.

Refer to the vehicle owner's handbook.

Alternatively you could buy/use a battery conditioner/charger designed specifically to be left permanently connected - ideal if the car's garaged but not so convenient if you have to park on the street.
