Does anyone have any advice or warnings about the various bike carriers and racks available?
I need to invest before the summer and can't decide - i do have a hatchback - are there problems with obscuring your view / your numberplates etc?

If i go for a rear mounted one can i still access the boot fairly easily?

many thanks

car roofs are designed to take an extra load and so is a towbracket but the tailgate is not.

I once watched a neighbour spend an hour fitting/adjusting a rear cycle carrier only to have the tailgate glass break when he closed it down. YOu can't open them with the bikes fitted either.

Rear mounted and you'll still have to get a lighting board so you'll need towing electrics.

Get a towbracket and you can fit a carrier to that and will still be able to open the boot.

Roof mounted is probably the easiest though it will affect your fuel bill more and you have to remember the extra height when going into car parks
