Did anyone see that bit in the Sunday Times talking about new style speed cameras for motorways that will measure your speed over 6 miles? as the AA geezer pointed out these just lead to dangerous tailgating which is more dangerous than going afew miles over the limit on motorways.

feels like a nightmare to me - the average speed cameras around birmingham and the one through roadworks are a real pain.

I think average speed cameras are a good idea. Like everyone I go a bit over the limit where there's not much chance of getting caught! However, where there are average speed cameras (my expereince is through roadworks on the M25 and M11) everyone slows down to the limit. I've not experienced tailgating through these areas to be honest.

Good. It's about time drivers took more responsibility for their chosen speed on the road. Every road has a speed limit, know it! As for tailgating, the person behind is the one that is responsible for that, not you, just because you obey the limit. And we all should know what to do in the event of a tailgater. Sorted!

Speed does not kill, inappropriate speed does and inappropriate speed is just a factor in bad driving. For example 70 mph on the motorway in fog with less than 100m visibility will go unchecked by any speed camera.

Speed cameras are not safety devices they are revenue earners, which is why you rarely see them outside schools and old peoples homes etc. Policing speed with automated devices is easily achieved which is why they are used.

Remove all speed cameras and bring back police officers.
