Walking off with a locked car

I came out of my house today to find that my car had been moved from where it had been parked on the street. I am the only person with keys to the car and the handbrake was on, yet it had been lifted or towed backwards and abandoned in front of the locked gateway to a church hall.
I just can't understand this behaviour at all. Could it be just vandals or did someone make an attempt to run off with my car even while it was parked and locked outside my residence. My car is a Ford KA, so was it light enough for them to just lift and move? Should I invest in better security to prevent this happening again? |

Sounds like vandals unless you have any dispute with neighbours over parking?
Try leaving the car in gear to make it harder to move by lifting the back end. lots of alarm systems do have tilt sensors to deter wheel theft but they're not cheap. |

This should have been reported to the police in your area. Any unapproved movement of a vehicle is worthy of a police report as it could pertain to vehicle interference / taking without consent / attempted theft / criminal damage etc.
Things to consider: Was the vehicle entered? Did it suffer any damage? Was anything removed / stolen from the vehicle? Was anything left around the vehicle that did not belong there? Are you currently involved in any neighbourly disputes? Did you ask your neighbours at the time if they saw anything? Is there any CCTV coverage in the vicinity? Did anyone else in the area suffer a similar crime around the same time? If this occurred on a Tuesday night it seems less like a drunken prank and more like a theft attempt or an act of spite. |
