Subject: Can a convertible ever be practical?
Posted At: 23/04/2009 13:45:49
My partner is hankering after a new car, preferably a convertible. She's been looking at the Mazda MX-5 but we're a one-car household - do any MX-5 owners, past or present, consider it to be suitable for everyday use?
She accepts there would be occasions when we might need to hire a larger, more practical car. We have no children, so don't need the extra seats, it's more to do with the luggage space. Or any alternative convertibles we should consider? She is also looking at a hardtop Mini Cooper or Fiat 500 but I don't know how you can separate them - they seem equally good cars. |

I'm a veteran or having an MR2, and then switching to a Mini Cooper.
The MR2 was more fun but was completely impractical. The romantc weekend away gets less romantic when you cant take anything to wear. When you first get the car you can't believe the lack of luggage space - it's like someone is making a bad joke. The Mini Cooper is much more practical, and still good fun. Only two things to watch out for: Make sure your feet aren't too big, the pedals are close to the floor (I don't know if they can be reset) Make sure you don't live anywhere where there is traffic calming, by which I mean speed humps, because it has the suspension of a 1950s landrover |
