Hey guys.

Ive got a 2006 Mini Cooper.. had it since new (2007) and not had any problems with it.

Just been driving back to Uni (from home, Sheffield, to Manchester), and halfway over Woodhead pass whilst in 6th gear I realise that my gearstick is freely moveable!!!

My initial thought was that some sort of screw was loose that connects the gearbox to the actual car (as I havent really got a clue when it comes to them).

It would be alright, but ive got an interview on Wednesday and I can't get the damn thing in reverse, 1st or 2nd because the whole gearbox seems to have shifted to the left. Still, I can set off in 3rd but its burning loads of petrol and smells smokey..

Also, its difficult to anticipate which gear im actually in as the whole gear box moves left AND right.. but I haven't got a chance getting reverse as those who have driven a Mini before will know u have to put a certain amount of force through the left of the stick to get it through some gates.

Does anyone have an insight into this sort of problem?

Im with AA, should I give them a bell?

Cheers lads.
