Mad planners introduced a crazy "traffic calming" scheme on Ebury Bridge Road in London acouple of years ago. It was one of those lane narrowing schemes but on the first day a coach crashed through the confusion and it had to be dug up. Who thinks up these obstacles in the road?

yes but isn't it also crazy those local authorities who put signs "This roundabout sponsored by XYZ Corporate Solititors" so that if you are distracted and crash you can sue them.
I hear the Highways Agency have diallowed a sign for a country pub as it might encourage drink driving. Nanny state or what. |

You want crazy traffic schemes then look no further than the St Johns roundabout in Newbury. The council had some spare cash to spend on cycle lanes and they have created an absolute monster!! Any cyclist who ventures onto that roundabout is really taking their life into their hands...

lewisham council se london transport commitee must be run by pedistrians or bike riders as a perfectly safe road Downham way has been turned into a drivers night mare due to islands and parking width restrictions making you have to follow buses and stopping at every bus stop its whole lenght or taking your life into your hands trying to overtake them. whilst im on this road at the downham end the road is full of pot holes making the first 200 m fill like your traveling on a mountain track

Near our village, we have a minerals developer that wants to solve the extreme dangers of its slow-moving HGVs entering a fast-flowing dual carriageway, by painting out half a mile of the inside lane, funnelling all the dual carriageway traffic (at present in the two lanes) into the outside lane only, in order that its HGVs can move unobstructed into the inside lane at the next junction.
The net result of the developer's proposal would be that 9,000 motorists per day would lose the benefit of half a mile of dual carriageway in order to let just 26 HGVs per day join at that junction. The County Council may be so tame that they are considering allowing this injustice in order to meet its minerals targets. Losing half a mile of dual carriageway on a major A road will greatly reduce the scope for faster traffic to overtake slower traffic, and therefore penalise motorists along a consdierable stretch of this major A road. Any advice / similar experience? Spook |
