Hi all,

There's a new petition - officially endorsed by the AA - on the 10 Downing Street website.

It demands that this Government starts to invest properly in Britain's road network...and develop a coherent policy with councils and utility companies to stop pointless congestion, roadworks and delays.

Potholes cost British drivers £1 million every single day. But although we also fork out £45 BILLION every year in motoring taxes, only a sixth of that is invested back in the roads.

This petition is long overdue and will help all long-suffering drivers - so please support it.

As an additional issue to potholes, can I also add speedbumps. In my area not only are there innumerable speed bumps, they are also very badly maintained. For instance to get off my drivway I have to experience 12 speed bumps within 1/4 mile of home. About 50% - 70% of these speedbumps are potholed, irregular and front edge too steep. The maximum speed you need to approach them is 10 miles per hour ( in a 30mph zone ).
In the forthcoming Local Elections I intend use my franchise to try to oust the perpetrators of all speed bumps in Stockport. They are largely ignored by 4x4 and the larger vehicles, but cause enormous damage to smaller car suspension.

Did anyone see that huge pothole in the papers a couple of weeks ago? Pictures showed the middle of the road just cave in and produce a huge pothole. Therefore, I am not surprised that 676 people filed for compensation due to potholes damaging their car of cyclists being injured by the huge holes. In 2008/09, the county council spent £500,000 on repairing pot holes, including patching repairs and pre-surfacing dressing works – clearly this has made a huge difference!
