According to AA Insurance we're set to become a nation of car sharers

Apparently the most popular reason to car share is to save money on fuel while the thing that annoys most who have tried sharing is lateness.

How does car sharing work for you?

If you don't or won't share, why?

We should not be forced to car share. People should stick together with all road user to stop us getting ripped off by the goverment on high fuel duty. We should stick together to help people that don't have the option of car sharing and support small businesses and transport companys that these over the top taxes are putting out of business. No transport companies no food on the shelves. No small businesses no local economy.

I agree that we should not be forced to share or penalised if we do not. I would not, as I enjoy the quiet time to/from work, when I can listen to my own music, take the roof down (which I do all year round - unless raining) & leave/return when I want. My job is not a 9-5, but depends on my current project. So being dependent on someone else is not for me.

Also in agreement with iainvr4.

I've had good and bad experiences.

It's generally good - depends who you lift share with. You all need to be fairly easy going with a bit of tolerance and respect for the other person's ways of doing things, otherwise every little thing will irritate you and you'll soon wish you weren't lift sharing.

As for the reasons to do it they are plentiful - there is a small fuel saving plus it helps reduce the volume of traffic on the roads at peak times.

It's important that your co-travellers have good basic hygiene; and it helps if you have the same taste in music!
