Would a breakaway series be good for motorsport fans?

The weekend's coverage from Silverstone was dominated by the politics of the power struggle between FIA/Max Mosley and the big teams/drivers.

surely in any sport if well run, the administrators should be virtually invisible in the background not dominating the headlines and changing the rules dramatically every season?

F1 is the pinnacle of motor sport and as such should be free to innovate as much as possible.

I for one would like to see the breakaway succeed - I think it'll be refreshing and reinvigorating for the sport.
