My favourite restaurant by far is Lockwoods on North Street in Ripon, North Yorkshire. It has the three components of a good restaurant (menu, ambience, and service) in perfect combination. The listed building presents the best of old (original brick walls) and new (zinc top bar and modern lighting) with an intimate friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The service is attentive efficient and smiling. Best of all the modern european menu turns out the most tasty and well presented dishes. Fresh locally sourced produce is stressed.

I started with the Spinach and Goats Cheese Tart, Rocket, and Red Onion Chutney which was a delicious combination of savoury and tangy flavours. For main course Crisp Local Belly Pork, Sage and Onion Potatoes, Homemade Black Pudding, Buttered Spinach brilliantly presented and cooked to perfection. Desserts looked excellent but beyond my capacity. Highly recommend it.

Check out "About Thyme"in Wilton Road, Victoria, London. Better value at lunch than dinner. Great mix of med, fusion, spanish, french food. Unpretentious. Free glass of sparkling for regularish customers, Changing specials, good service. Different.

Fish Central is a fantastic restaurant hidden away between Barbican and Angel, in London. This family-run firm has been there for 40 years and keeps things simple with a great menu featuring fresh fish and seafood, grills and veggie options. There's a traditional takeaway fish 'n' chip shop next door to the cool, clean and contemporary dining room.

My husband & I have eaten at Mileburne Restaurant in Melbourne Derbyshire 5 times since March and we'll be back again as soon as we can. You'd have to go a long way to enjoy better food in a welcoming atmosphere with service & quality of an extremely high standard. You feel "part of the family" in this unique, fine restaurant. They were short listed for the Best Restaurant in Derbyshire award for 2009 and we certainly agree.

Wonderful!
