Drivers must carry a reflective jacket and warning triangle or risk a fine

French police may enjoy a windfall from Wednesday onwards as laws requiring reflective jackets and warning triangles in cars become enforceable with fines, the AA warns.

This comes at the end of a month when the municipality of Pisa searched its road offences records and harvested fines from UK drivers dating as far back as June 2007.

Persistent reports of gendarmes inspecting cars and ticking off a list of required safety equipment items have continued to filter through to the AA this summer.

On Wednesday 1 October, drivers in France who are not carrying a reflective jacket or a warning triangle may be fined on the spot €90 – €135.

Is this fair?
Have you been stopped and searched/fined?

No, this is not fair but when has anything concerned with motoring ever been fair?
Perhaps the British police might enforce the law where French drivers are involved. Let's hope so.

Hi
I'm going to France next year and will be hiring a car. Are you saying that hire cars will be provided with Jackets, or that they "ought" to be?

This is another classic case of health and safety going mad, what happened to COMMON SENSE, but again it gives an opportunty for police to collect revenue where none existed before.
The British people must be the most discriminated people in Europe, ask anyone who has lived in Spain, I have, it is disgusting.
European drivers come to the UK to drive on our s****y roads but unless they do something stupid they will be left alone, now if i go over to Europe I have the threat of being pulled over for the crime of having a British number plate so some arrogant copper can search my car to try to fine me, welcome to Europe, its c**p.
