parkingdefine 'parked'

in london:
i dropped off in a laybye marked 'no parking'. i never got out of the car or turned my engine off. i got photographed - got fined. i questioned the fine and the definition of 'parking' and told them to look it up in the oxford english. my car was stationary .. but not parked. they said it would take to long for them to track down the photo - i offered them a copy of the one they sent me - they declined and WITHDREW the charges. sometimes it pays to be pedantic. but the sign said NO PARKING AND I DIDN'T. |
