Not sure about skiing in the UK, but I do go to Kitzbuhel in Austria every year and it's fantastic.
A great variety of pistes with a wide range of levels - a lot of great off piste and black runs for the more advanced and connections to other mountains in the area - so you can go on a virtual ski safari! There's a snowboarding park, but Kitzbuhel is not as great for snowboarders to be honest. The Apres Ski is also great and it's the best place in the world for New Years Eve fireworks - people come from all over just to see them!
