Hi

AS a Bereave Parent I am strongly in favour of more severe punishment for any driver that causes DEATH by Driving in a Dangerous manner.
The Punishment should fir the Crime
What is the VALUE of a HUMAN LIFE?

The real VICTIMS is us the family of the person gone.

We should have Human Rights like prisoners.

You are caught driving Dangerously and cause a FATALITY then away with your license and car and a long jail centence.
Its the only way to stop it

Look, don't get me wrong here, every driver, no matter how hard they think they are, will always have sympathy for someone killed as a result of an RTA, whatever the circumstances and you are right to call for tougher penalties when a fatality is caused by any kind of erratic driving, but the problem isn't erratic drivers!

The problem is poor education in the first place. What needs to happen is the driving test cirriculum needs to up their game! The driving test has really changed very little since it's introduction in the 60s. Today, the standard driving test needs to be of the same standard, or even abolished in favour of, the Police's own advanced driving course, but done from scratch.

Of course this will never happen because the government knows that many people would never have the skill or ability to pass such a rigorous test and therefore would loose untold amounts of revenue in lost petrol and road tax, not to mention VAT on the cars themselves. However, if this was introduced think of the lives that would save! maybe your son or daughter would still be alive today if the driver had been able to handle his vehicle correctly?

Death occurs not just by poor driving but by many ways in society.
I feel that to single out drivers alone is basically unfair. Most road users are doing their best as they have a number of reasons for not wishing to get caught up in a RTA.
There is a small number of idsiots who care not one jot for either themselves or others. It may be they have a reduced capacity for risk recognition but they still unnecessarily increase the risks. I agree they should be punished.
However, it is not fair to regard ALL motorists as some kind of lunatic looking for a chance to risk life and limb.
If I understand the statistic correctly more people die of accidents in the home. No publicity though.
Threadmaster, I understand your anger and sadness ( believe me I do) but most of us are going about our business as best we can trying to minimise risk for all.
Before you think me a petrol head let me tell you I have been driving for 35 years with 2 accidents - both minor, and two speeding offences one at 33 in 30 limit and one at 35 in 30 limit and I have attended 3 courses aimed at improving driving skills. I am not perfect., in fact i don't think I am good but I am trying like most others.
So, lets put it into perspective where wrong is done Ok punish but where not leave alone to get on.

Thank you
