I am the named driver on my girlfriends Fully Comprehensive AA insurance policy. We are going away with her family and I want to share the driving of her dads car. Would our policy with my girlfriends car cover me to drive her dads car third party?
Thanks |

Unfortunately, no. Your girlfriend’s policy would cover her, as policyholder, for ‘driving other cars’ (or DOC) but not named drivers. DOC only provides third party cover and is really intended for emergency use. Although AA policies do still include this cover, many insurers have withdrawn it because it is often misused. Your best option would be to get your girlfriend’s dad to extend his insurance temporarily to cover you – his insurer will probably offer this option and it should not be too expensive. They you will be fully covered whatever the circumstances.
